The Lucia N°03 Light is a medical-grade device that combines halogen and LED full-spectrum light to guide clients into a deeply meditative, hypnagogic state. The pulsing light stimulates brainwave patterns, fostering deep relaxation, inner balance, creativity, and emotional release.
Conditions it may support: PTSD, traumatic brain injury, stroke recovery, chronic pain with emotional components, stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep disorders, and creative blocks.
Available as standalone session, combined with another therapy, or as a shared group studio session. Contraindicated for epilepsy, individuals under 18, and those with sensitivity to flashing lights.

Frequently asked questions
Lucia No 3 Light Therapy
The Lucia N°03 combines a steady halogen light with a flicker of LED lights to create a full-spectrum light experience that stimulates the brain's visual cortex — even through closed eyelids. This produces a deeply immersive, hypnagogic state: the threshold between wakefulness and sleep where the brain is most receptive to relaxation, emotional release, and inner imagery. Every session is unique to the individual, guided by a trained practitioner at The Pain Management Clinic, Ham Manor Golf Club.
The Lucia N°03 was developed by Austrian neurologist Dr Engelbert Winkler and physician Dr Josef Zenzmaier. It is the most advanced hypnagogic light therapy device available and is used by practitioners in wellness clinics, research settings, and therapeutic environments worldwide. At The Pain Management Clinic in Angmering, West Sussex, the Lucia N°03 is used by trained practitioners as part of a holistic, drug-free approach to pain and trauma management.
Lucia N°03 Light therapy is not suitable for everyone and a health assessment is completed before every session at The Pain Management Clinic. The therapy is not appropriate for children and adolescents under 18, anyone with epilepsy or a known sensitivity to flashing lights, those with mental impairments or neurological disorders, pregnant women, or anyone under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or certain medications. If you have any concerns about your suitability, please contact our team before booking — we are happy to advise. The Pain Management Clinic accepts no liability for clients who do not disclose relevant medical information prior to treatment.
Standard light therapy lamps and SAD devices use a constant, fixed-intensity light to regulate circadian rhythm and mood. The Lucia N°03 is fundamentally different — it uses a precisely programmed combination of steady and flickering full-spectrum light to guide the brain into altered brainwave states, producing a deeply meditative, hypnagogic experience. It works at the neurological level rather than simply providing light exposure, and is used therapeutically for trauma, PTSD, chronic pain, and emotional wellbeing.
Lucia N°03 Light therapy may be beneficial for PTSD, trauma, anxiety, depression, chronic stress, burnout, sleep disorders, and chronic pain with emotional components. It has also been used to support recovery from traumatic brain injury and stroke. At The Pain Management Clinic, it is particularly recommended for clients whose pain has a significant psychological or emotional dimension, and for those seeking deep relaxation without the need for prior meditation experience.
Yes — this is one of the Lucia N°03's most significant therapeutic applications. The hypnagogic state it induces places the nervous system into deep relaxation while gently expanding awareness, which can facilitate the release of trauma, unhealthy mental patterns, and emotional stress held in the body. At The Pain Management Clinic, Ham Manor Golf Club, the Lucia N°03 is used alongside hypnotherapy specifically for clients experiencing PTSD associated with chronic pain, traumatic brain injury, or past trauma.
You lie comfortably on a massage table with your eyes closed beneath the Lucia N°03 Light. The experience is entirely personal — many clients describe vivid colours, geometric patterns, or a profound sense of calm and clarity. Some experience emotional release or deep insight. Others simply feel deeply rested. There is no right or wrong experience. Sessions are always guided by a trained practitioner at The Pain Management Clinic who will adjust the light programme to suit your individual needs and comfort level.
We recommend arriving well rested and avoiding alcohol or recreational drugs before your session. Wear comfortable clothing and try to approach the experience with an open mind and no fixed expectations — the Lucia N°03 works differently for every individual. Your practitioner at The Pain Management Clinic will talk you through what to expect beforehand and will be present throughout the session to ensure you feel safe and supported.
Many clients notice a meaningful shift in mood, clarity, or sense of calm after a single session. For deeper therapeutic work — particularly for trauma, PTSD, or chronic stress — a course of sessions typically produces more lasting results. Our practitioners at The Pain Management Clinic in Angmering will advise you on the most appropriate programme following your initial consultation. Sessions can be booked individually, as a shared group studio session, or as part of a multi-session package.
